Buxton Music, Speech and Drama Festival 2020
We are a Festival celebrating amateur music and drama performing, with opportunities for children, young people and adults to perform in both a competitive and non-competitive supportive environment and benefit from feedback.
The 2020 Dates, Times and venues have now been chosen
Could we please draw your attention to the change in date and venue for the Junior Choirs. We have obtained the Buxton Octagon for the evening of Thursday 14th May 2020. This has been sponsored by Parkwood Leisure of Buxton Pavilion and Gardens. The Octagon is a wonderful performance venue and has the added advantage of nearby parking facilities. You can see its location on the map below. The Junior Choirs evening will end with a choral workshop to include all the choirs. The piece to be performed is “This is me” from “The Greatest Showman“. Jo Holdway will visit the schools entering, after the closing date once entries have been confirmed. However, if you would like to speak direct to Jo, please telephone her on 01298 436 570, or on 07968 004 543.
This season’s dates will be:
- Saturday 9th May 2020
- Thursday 14th May 2020
- Friday 15th May 2020
- Saturday 16th May 2020
- The Gala Concert will be held on Saturday 13th June at the Methodist Church.
We now use three locations, The Buxton Methodist Church, Chapel St, Buxton SK17 6HX, St John The Baptist Church, 6 St John’s Rd, Buxton SK17 6XN and Buxton Octagon. As this map shows it takes around 7 minutes to walk between the two churches but do be warned, Hall Bank is quite steep when climbing to the Methodist Church.
The Festival has always been run by a small group of committed people who are happy to give some of their time to ensure that it survives into its second century. If you would like to join us as a volunteer, please speak to any member of the committee, you will be made most welcome!
You may also like to consider becoming a Friend of the Festival. For £25 (or more if you would like to make a donation) you will receive free entry to all Festival events and free refreshments at the Winners’ Concert. To become a Friend drop an email to the treasurer, Charles Huff, on firstname.lastname@example.org, call our chairperson on 01298 24573 or speak to any member of the committee.
